TRAINING: ENTERPRISE RISK MANAGEMENT

DATES: The 3-day intensive training will take place on April 16, 18, and 20, 2018.

VENUE: International Center for Agribusiness Research and Education (ICARE).  74 Teryan Street, 0009 Yerevan.

WORKING LANGUAGE: The working language of the training will be Armenian (the terminology will be in English); however, the PowerPoint slides will be in English.

LEVEL: Intermediate. It is recommended that participants have a basic background in statistics (regression analysis) and Microsoft Excel.

TRAINING PARTICIPATION FEE: The training is free of charge. While similar hands-on trainings are quite expensive, ICARE fully covers the associated expenses for the participants, thus staying true to its charitable, social, scientific, and educational commitments. Upon successful completion of the training, the participants will be awarded a certificate of participation. To qualify for the certificate, participants must be present in all the sessions.

TRAINING DESCRIPTION: This training is designed using actual and practical exercises based on the trainer’s experience in financial and private business sectors. The training is also designed as an overview of the risk management (RM) function and the risk management role in managing actual risks in financial organizations and private businesses arising from currency volatility, price sensitivity, lack of risk appetite, sector-based forecasts, Early warning and Key risk indicators, stress-testing and scenario-based approaches. It familiarizes participants with the authority, responsibility role functions and actual problems related to lack of appropriate risk management tools and absence of risk culture.

Topics include: currency risk management; risk appetite definition; stress-testing approach; counterparty risk management/risk limitation; early warning mechanism creation; sector risk management; market risk management; key risk indicators definition; scorecard implementation; other useful risk management technologies, and tools and best practices used in organizations.

TARGET AUDIENCE: The purpose of this training is to equip participants from financial and banking sectors and private business owners and managers with practical skills of managing the different types of risk arising during operation in emerging markets to assist them in making educated risk-based optimal decisions in the process of managing their businesses.

This training makes extensive use of the practical tools and techniques already tested in the financial sector and private business. Besides, the theoretical approach is also covered to help participants in applying the theoretical knowledge in practice in different sectors such as agribusiness, banking and financing, mining, industry, production, wholesaling/retailing, tourism, etc.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES: After completing this training, participants will be able to:

  • Set-up a Risk appetite for business optimization and managing potential losses.
  • Have an understanding of the managing of currency risk and price sensitivity in the Armenian market.
  • Develop various appropriate stress-testing and forecasting models for understanding the potential negative impacts in case of shocks.
  • Develop a rating and scoring model based on qualitative and quantitative parameters.
  • Develop risk-based pricing for interest rate calculating and product pricing.
  • Estimate the early warnings with the help of business key risk indicators/signals.
  • Assign responsibilities for optimal decision-making.

PRESENTATION METHODS: A combination of PowerPoint presentation, interactive discussions and in-class exercises will be used (the participants can bring their own notebooks to facilitate the process of practical exercises). A dynamic discussion and exchange of ideas through interactive class participation will be strongly encouraged.

TRAINER: Grigor M. Petrosyan holds a Master of Science in Physics and Mathematics. Currently, he is the head of credit risk division at AMERIABANK CJSC. Before that, he was working in the Russian banking sector, as a project manager of modeling implementation. Previously, he occupied different managerial positions in credit department such as the head of corporate lending, head of mortgage and consumer lending, and head of SME lending unit. Mr. Petrosyan is certified by Global Association of Risk Professionals and Risk Certification Program Foundation of Banking Risk.
