Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) Certificate Program at ICARE

jointly with Texas A&M University 

This is an exclusive opportunity to enroll in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) Certificate Program, conducted jointly by ICARE and the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management at Texas A&M University.

Geospatial technologies have captured global interests for more than two decades ago. The technologies are applicable to a wide range of fields and industries that have an intersected interest with geographical location information. Especially within recent years, a growing use of geospatial technologies applications have been witnessed in agriculture, environmental and resource management, urban and transportation planning, healthcare, and businesses, just to name a few. Without a doubt, geospatial technologies have countless capabilities and applications, and as the technologies continue to grow, it is only a matter of time before one finds a useful, relatable application of geospatial technologies that can help save lives, sustain and conserve the priceless resources of our planet Earth, and enhance our quality of living.

 

 

Curriculum

  • Geographic Information Systems
  • Remote Sensing of the Environment
  • Unmanned Aircraft Systems
  • Global Positioning Systems

These courses will be paired with student field trips and tests of the in-class knowledge in the real environment. The technological instruments used in this curriculum (computers with specialized software, GPS units and drones) will help students of this program fully immerse into the content of Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS).

Teaching faculty: The curriculum will be taught by faculty from Texas A&M University

Start date: September 10, 2018

Program Duration: 10 weeks (6 weeks of in-person classes and 4 weeks of videoconference classes). There will be a 1-week break in the middle.

Program fee: The actual cost of the program is 1,000,000 AMD per student. However, 85%  of the total cost will be covered by ICARE and the German Agency for International Development (GIZ) in an amount of 850,000. Students will pay only 150,000 AMD for the entire program.
