Managerial Economics Course Admission

Participants are introduced to how economic theory applies in practice. More specifically, Managerial Economics applies quantitative and qualitative solutions and techniques to make managerial decisions. The course is designed to equip participants with skills to solve economic problems and facilitate the decision-making process.

Participants are expected to get fully involved in the course by attending classes, submitting complete homework assignments, and passing exams. After successfully finishing the course (i.e., getting at least 60%, participants will get a Certificate of Completion from ICARE.

Course description

This course is designed to provide tools for understanding and analyzing economic applications by using Economic theories. The course will cover Economic topics (both Micro and Macro) that will help participants to have a better understanding of Economics in general and also provide techniques that will help with policymaking decisions at a managerial level.

The course will also provide qualitative tool and techniques that will give the participants the ability to answer “why” questions behind consumers’, firms’ or industries’ behavior. This course will also emphasize the real-life examples and solutions that can be provided given a specific topic or subject area. The course will also provide a foundation in individual (consumer, firm, industry) behavior so that the participants can start understanding the decision-making mechanisms in different environments.

Learning outcomes

The objectives of the course will be achieved by requiring the following learning outcomes:

  • Understand economic concepts that are relevant in economic discipline in general
  • Learn analytical, critical reading, and presentation skills needed to work as a professional economist.
  • Be able to provide economic theory to solve real-life problems both at Micro (individual consumers) and Macro (industry) levels.
  • Think of applications of economic research and policy implications
  • Be able to provide managerial solutions to problems relevant to the business environment.
  • Be able to apply various economics tools to collect and analyze different types of data.

Audience

Participants are expected to be familiar with some economics. And it is recommended that they have English language skills.

Teaching methods

Participants are expected to attend all lectures. The instructor will first go over the main highlights of the chapter through a powerpoint presentation during lectures. A dynamic discussion and exchange of ideas through interactive class participation will be strongly encouraged. Throughout the course Instructor’s PowerPoint presentation slides and supplemental material will be provided.

 Instructor

Dr. Gnel Gabrielyan is an economist whose fields of specialization fall under Applied Economics. His research consists of topics in consumer, behavioral, policy evaluations and implications, agricultural and health economics, and agribusiness. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Washington State University (WSU), M.S. in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness from Louisiana State University (LSU) and B.A. from Armenian Agricultural Academy in Agribusiness and Marketing. He recently completed a research associate position at the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University. He has published more than 10 academic papers that have been published in various journals. (for details see CV).

Course duration

The course will start on October 1st, 2019 and last until January 20th, 2020.

Course working language

The language of instruction will be English.

Course participation fee

The course fee is AMD 120,000 which must be paid the first week of October. While similar hands-on courses are quite expensive, ICARE partly covers the associated expenses for the participants, thus staying true to its charitable, social, scientific, and educational commitments.
