Gohar’s success story as EVN Wine Academy’s graduate

How and why did you decide to enter the wine industry?
My love for winemaking began in 2016, as I was contemplating my career path. This passion was further reinforced in 2018 when I traveled to Italy as part of the Erasmus Plus international cooperation program and studied winemaking. In 2019, I began making my own wine, and by 2020, my WineGog brand was ready for market.

How would you describe your experience at EVN?
As a graduate of the EVN Wine Academy, I can confidently attest that it is the only educational center in Armenia where one can obtain comprehensive knowledge of winemaking, from grape cultivation to the final product, in just one year and eight months. The academy provides a thorough education that equips students with the skills and expertise necessary to succeed in the wine industry.
My time at the EVN Wine Academy provided me with invaluable knowledge that I apply to my everyday work. Not only did I receive a top-notch education, but I also had the opportunity to make lifelong friends and network with the best winemakers, grape growers, and marketers in Armenia. Through these connections, I have been able to collaborate with many experienced professionals, sharing knowledge and experience that has proven to be essential for my career growth.

What professional benefits did EVN provide?
While I received numerous professional advantages from attending the EVN Wine Academy, the practical knowledge I gained stands out the most. The Academy provided us with ample opportunities to visit various wineries and vineyards, allowing us to participate in every step of the production process. It’s one thing to study winemaking from a theoretical perspective, but putting that knowledge into practice is where real learning happens. Through these hands-on experiences, we were able to witness the impact of each decision on the final product and gain invaluable insights that cannot be obtained through theory alone.

What did you like most about EVN?
One aspect of being a student at the EVN Wine Academy that I found particularly valuable was the relaxed and friendly environment. The Academy fosters a culture of solidarity and mutual support, which extends beyond the classroom to create a sense of community among students, faculty, and industry professionals alike. This environment allows for open and constructive dialogue, encouraging us to ask questions, share ideas, and learn from one another. By becoming a student at EVN, you become a part of the growing field of Armenian winemaking, surrounded by like-minded individuals who share your passion and dedication to the wine.

What does EVN give to the student?
The EVN Wine Academy provides students with the motivation, passion, and opportunities needed to excel in the field of winemaking. The academy’s hands-on approach to education and comprehensive curriculum help to reshape students’ understanding and appreciation of wine. Witnessing the wine-making process from start to finish gives one a newfound respect for the wine and makes it difficult to simply drink wine without reflecting on its origins and nuances. Moreover, wine has a unique ability to bring people together. Whether it’s discussing the subtle flavors of a particular vintage or delving into deeper philosophical discussions, wine has the power to connect us with one another in a profound way. At EVN, students have the opportunity to explore this social aspect of wine, learning not just about the wine itself but also about the cultural and social significance of this beloved beverage.
