Business Statistics Course Admission

Participants are introduced to fundamentals of statistical techniques. The participants will learn how to gather, describe and make real world decisions from data.  The course is designed to equip participants with practical skills to be able to solve real world problems. Participants are expected to get fully involved in the course by attending classes, submitting complete homework assignments, and passing exams. After successfully finishing the course (i.e., getting at least 60%), participants will get Certificate of Completion from ICARE .

Course description
The objective of this course is to assess the validity of statistical conclusions; organize, summarize, interpret, and present data using graphical and tabular representations; and apply principles of inferential statistics. The focus is on selecting and applying appropriate statistical tests and determining reasonable inferences and predictions from a set of data.

Learning outcomes
The objectives of the course will be achieved by requiring the following learning outcomes:

  • Distinguish among sampling methods for the collection of data in order to assess the validity of statistical conclusions.
  • Organize, summarize, interpret, and present data using graphical and tabular representations.
  • Select and apply statistical test or tests that are most appropriate to analyze a data set.
  • Prepare and perform analysis of data through common description measures.
  • Master basic probability concepts using contingency tables, and discrete and continuous probability distributions.
  • Do confidence interval estimation and hypothesis testing.
  • Become familiar with regression analysis.

Audience
Participants are not expected to be intimately familiar with statistics; however, it is recommended that they have English language skills.

Teaching methods
Participants are expected to attend all lectures. The instructor will first go over the main highlights of the chapter through a power point presentation during lectures. A dynamic discussion and exchange of ideas through interactive class participation will be strongly encouraged. Throughout the course Instructor’s PowerPoint presentation slides and supplemental material will be provided.

Instructor
Mr. Dallakyan is a Ph.D. student and Instructor in Statistics at Texas A&M University. His current research interest is in Statistical Machine Learning, high dimensional time series and Graphical Models. He holds a master’s degree in Agribusiness from the Agribusiness Teaching Center (ATC) and bachelor degree in Engineering from the State Engineering University of Armenia (SEUA). He co-authored the article “The Use of Time-Series Analysis in Examining Food Safety Issues”, which was recognized as an outstanding research paper by the Food Distribution Research Society. He is a member of American Statistical Association and Statistical Graduate Student Association at Texas A&M University. Along with the research, he is teaching quantitative courses such as Principles of Statistics and Statistical Methods.  (for details see  https://adallak.github.io/).

Course duration
The course will start on October 1st, 2019 and last until January 20th,2020.

Course working language
The language of instruction will be English.

Course participation fee
The course fee is AMD 120,000 which must be paid the first week of October. While similar hands-on courses are quite expensive, ICARE partly covers the associated expenses for the participants, thus staying true to its charitable, social, scientific, and educational commitments.
