From France to Armenia: The Story of Anahide Djabourian – EVN Wine Academy Graduate

Born in France to an Armenian family far from the vineyards of her ancestors, Anahide Djabourian – EVN Wine Academy Graduate – never imagined that the next chapter of her life would unfold among the mountains of Vayots Dzor. In 2021, driven by a desire to explore her heritage, she joined a volunteer program and moved to Armenia. What was meant to be a short visit quickly turned into a turning point. The warmth of the people, the culture, and the land awakened a new dream – to build a future in Armenia.

To turn passion into expertise, Anahide joined the EVN Wine Academy – a transformative step that shaped her professional path. At EVN, she explored the science and craftsmanship behind winemaking: from viticulture and fermentation techniques to wine sensory analysis and business management. Learning from leading winemakers, enologists, and industry experts gave her the knowledge and confidence to pursue her vision.

EVN also became her gateway into Armenia’s dynamic winemaking community – a strong network of professionals and classmates united by a shared passion for elevating Armenian wine. It connected her with the heart of the country’s wine renaissance and helped her gain hands-on experience that extended far beyond the classroom.

Still, the vineyard remains her most powerful teacher. Working closely with seasonal workers and the vines themselves, she discovered how much patience and intuition winemaking demands – how each day, each cluster, each season offers a new lesson.

From the beginning, Anahide was determined that their wines would be made exclusively from Armenian indigenous grapes – Areni, Voskehat, and Khatoun Kharji among them. The family continues planting new vineyards to expand their selection of local varieties and to contribute to the preservation of Armenia’s viticultural heritage.

Their first wine was produced in a limited quantity – around 2,000 bottles – marking the start of a long journey of learning and refining. With organic and minimal-intervention practices, the Djabourians prioritize the health of the land and the authenticity of the fruit, even when nature challenges them. Seasons like 2024, with heavy rainfalls right before harvest, have strengthened their resilience and their dedication to quality.

Every step Anahide takes reflects a clear vision: to craft wines that proudly speak of Armenia.
She hopes that one day, someone in France – or anywhere in the world will raise a glass and immediately recognize the soul of Armenian terroir in its taste and aroma.

Her story is still being written, but already, Anahide stands among the new generation of Armenian winemakers – young, passionate leaders who blend tradition with innovation and carry the voice of our land into every bottle.

At EVN Wine Academy, we are proud to be part of her journey – and excited to see how far her ambition will take Armenian wine.
